The mandate of the Institute, as reflected in the Higher Education Act (Act 101 of 1997), as amended, is as reflected below:
-
Co-ordinate the regional provision of higher education.
-
Ensure the coherent provision of higher education through programme collaboration with public higher education institutions operating in the Mpumalanga Province.
-
Advise the Minister on matters relating to the co-ordination of the provision of higher education in the Mpumalanga Province; and
-
Perform any other duty, which may be prescribed.

The “Vulindlela” Forum successfully launched
“Vulindlela” is a Nguni word which takes its origin from the SiSwati language and depicts “paving the way” – usually towards better things or opportunities. The forum is a NIHE’s establishment thus envisaged to operate as a “Think-Tank” for the Institute with a view to improve access to higher education and training through a cooperative approach.
