The NIHE hosted a successful symposium at the Emnotweni Arena on the 15th of March 2012 under the theme “Towards a higher education institution in Mpumalanga: Challenges, Opportunities and Solutions”. The aim to of the symposium was to provide:

• A platform for sharing information on the different types of higher education institutions in South Africa.
• An opportunity to briefly introduce some lessons from other universities on  running multi-campus institutions and
• An opportunity to obtain input from other role players in the Province such as the Provincial Government, Nursing College, Agriculture College, FET Colleges, business and industry on preferred models from their varying perspectives and an opportunity for input on possible approaches to widening access.
