Programme: Academic Programme Coordination

Executive Director Academic Affairs: Dr Isaac Machi

The objective of the Academic Programmes Coordination Directorate is to manage the following activities in consultation with partner institutions and other organisations:

  • identification and prioritisation of collaborative initiatives or projects;
  • selection of opportunities to be addressed by the Institute;
  • analysis, development and recommendation of collaborative alternatives;
  • implementation of the agreed collaborative programmes; and
  • reviewing and monitoring the effectiveness of the collaborative programmes individually or collectively.

This Directorate reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer of the entity.



Programme: Finance and Administration

Chief Financial Officer: Mr Zakhele Zitha

Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer the objective of the Finance, Administrative Directorate is to provide financial, provisioning, human resources and auxiliary services to the Institute. This division is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the Public Finance Management Act, 1999, Preferential Procurement Act, and other legislative prescriptions related to human resources.

The Human Resources function will involve providing support to the Institute in terms of human resource management services, supporting the recruitment and selection of staff in the organisation, effecting the appointment of staff, handling human resource maintenance practices, i.e. promotions, transfers, secondments and other rewards, handling conditions of service for employees in the organisation, e.g. leave, housing allowances, medical aid, injury on duty and overtime, acting as a facilitator in the event of grievances that could not be resolved at Divisional level, dealing with the formal disciplinary procedure, promoting sound labour relations within the organisation, developing and maintaining human resource management policies, monitoring and facilitating performance management programmes.



Programme: Governance and Strategic Support

Under the guidance of the Chief Executive Officer, the Governance and Strategic Support Directorate supports the Board by:

  • Ensuring conceptual coherence between corporate strategic and business planning, continuous progress monitoring and eventual annual reporting to Parliament through the Ministry of Education;
  • Ensuring legal compliance with the reporting requirements for public entities as per the PFMA;
  • Defining the high level strategic alignment across the diverse functions of the Institute;
  • Promoting the application of performance measures in the business cycle of the organisation;
  • Providing information and interpretation, which can be used as a strategic management tool for the entity and the context in which it operates;

The Director: Governance and Strategic Support, acts as a Board Secretary and therefore is responsible for the proper administration of Board proceedings, for providing guidance to Board members on their fiduciary responsibilities and for the provision of administrative, secretarial and corporate governance services. The Board Secretary attends and records proceedings at all meetings of the Board, its committees and management committee.

The Governance and Strategic Support Directorate through the Audit and Risk Management Committee also assists the Board with its responsibility of safeguarding assets, operating adequate systems and controls, assessing the going concern status of the Institute, reviewing the financial information and assists in the preparation of the financial statements. This directorate is also responsible for identifying and managing significant risks affecting the Institute.
